Moon Struck's Journey
I’ve been a professional potter for over 20 years, but my journey with clay began long before that—deep in the Ozark Mountains of Southwest Missouri. My dad was an artist, and I was raised in a small town bursting with creativity, surrounded by musicians, dreamers, and makers of every kind. With the encouragement of my parents, I spent my childhood immersed in art, always knowing I was destined to create.
After college, I took a more hands-on route and spent two years as a full-time apprentice to a production potter. By day, I worked in her studio; by night, I poured myself into perfecting my own craft. That’s when Moon Struck Pottery was born—named for all those moonlit hours at the wheel. I spent years building my skills, selling at farmers markets and art shows, and even producing thousands of custom mugs for local businesses.
In 2010, everything shifted when a client asked if I could teach her daughter. I said yes—and quickly realized that sharing pottery was just as fulfilling as creating it. Teaching became my passion, and it’s been the heart of my work ever since.
In 2019, guided by a deep intuition and a little mermaid soul, I decided to take a leap of faith. With my ever-supportive partner Josh Barr by my side, we moved to Mobile, Alabama in 2020—right in the middle of the pandemic. We didn’t have all the answers, but we had each other, and a gut feeling it would work out. Soon after, we discovered the Central Arts Collective in Midtown, and I opened my studio inside this thriving hub of creativity. From day one, the Mobile community embraced us and filled our classes with eager students and kindred spirits.
Today, Moon Struck Pottery & Makers Space has become so much more than a studio. I teach classes and workshops for all ages and skill levels—wheel throwing, handbuilding, private parties, and date nights. My approach is always personal, focusing on each student’s pace and spark. I also mentor my own apprentice artists, giving them hands-on experience in both pottery and the creative business world.
In recent years, I’ve leaned more deeply into the healing power of art. I became a certified art therapy practitioner and began creating safe spaces for connection and healing through clay.
Most exciting of all, my partner Josh Barr has now joined Moon Struck full-time, bringing his own creativity, energy, and entrepreneurial spirit. Together, we’ve grown our Makers Space into a vibrant, inclusive community where artists support each other, share ideas, and grow not just in skill—but as individuals. Whether you're just starting out or deep in your craft, we believe everyone deserves a place to create, connect, and feel at home.
